Kelly Houle

Sitting on the hotel balcony, K. said
he could see a woman meditating
on the opposite bank of the creek.

When I looked, I saw rocks, green
grass, the sway of an oak’s shadow.

He goes out
to walk the desert
seafloor

comes back
like a wave

returns to me
fuchsia
cactus fruit,
fossil shells.
